Fire Mitigation Support in Glide

Umpqua FLASH Assistance Program

Living with dense forest and flammable vegetation around your home poses a serious wildfire risk. In the event of a fire, these combustible materials act as fuel and can quickly turn a small fire into a major threat, putting your property in danger.

To safeguard against this hazard, it’s essential to clear brush and create a buffer zone to keep flames at a safe distance.

The Umpqua Fire-adapted Landscapes and Safe Homes (FLASH) assistance program is designed to help Douglas County homeowners create defensible space around their homes and property.

Umpqua FLASH serves the community by offering:

  • Comprehensive home site visits to check for fire risks and teach you about protecting your property from wildfires using Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) education.
  • Tree service and vegetation clearing to create a defensible space around your home
  • Community clean-up days where community members volunteer to help with vegetation removal on private or public properties.
  • Fire prevention and preparedness community educational workshops.

Funding and assistance is available to landowners looking to create defensible space around their homes and reduce flammable vegetation along access routes and around their property.

Umpqua FLASH is a multi-agency collaboration with the Archie Creek Fire Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG), Glide Revitalization, Douglas Forest Protection Association, and Glide Rural Fire Protection District to offer private landowners funding and technical assistance to carry out wildfire risk reduction actions as outlined in the Douglas County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
